Course Structure

The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Management covers a wide range of subjects that will help you to develop an understanding of the major areas of business life. You will also have the opportunity to explore different specialized areas to have specialized knowledge and understanding of Marketing, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, and Hospitality & Tourism Management.

This programme is delivered via the Blended Learning approach wherein there is a blend and integration of both direct face to face classes as well as online learning via the specially designed WEC Learning Portal. The face to face teaching will take place at the University of Derby approved WEC Learning Centres with on-line support from Module Leaders approved by the University of Derby - UK.

This programme is a final year top up equivalent to the Level 6 of the University of Derby Honours qualification framework and contains four pathways namely a General Management pathway, and three specialist pathways in Marketing, Hospitality & Tourism Management, and Logistics & Supply Chain Management. 

The programme contains 4 (FOUR) core modules of 15 credits, 2 (TWO) elective modules of 15 credits each, and a Independent Study contributing the remaining 30 credits.

 1 year (Maximum of 2 academic years)

Entry Requirement

  1. Qualifications normally accepted for exemption will include Diplomas, Higher Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas in related business disciplines awarded by a recognised local institution or approved foreign universities.
  1. Those Diploma applicants who do not meet the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) requirements for direct entry into the final year will undertake additional modules prior to being admitted into this top up programme. These modules will be approved by the University of Derby.
  1. Applicants whose first language is not English will be expected to provide evidence of competence in spoken and written English. Applicants whose qualifications are recognised as having been conducted and examined in the English and are deemed to have the required English Language proficiency will not normally be required to provide other evidence of English proficiency.

The broad aim of this programme is to develop students with a range of knowledge and skills directly relevant to the working environment and to cater for the interest of students wishing to specialise in a specific functional areas in Management, Marketing, Hospitality & Tourism, and Logistics & Supply Chain Management.

  • Provide an opportunity for students to further develop related knowledge in business organisational management and prepare them intellectually and practically for effective performance in their place of work / employment.
  • Develop in students a critical understanding of the issues of management and business processes including the interrelationship between the core functional areas of organisations, relative to particular sectors whether public or private.
  • Develop specialised knowledge in a particular field of business such as management, marketing, Hotel and Tourism, or Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
  • Develop an awareness of the problems confronted by organisations and businesses and to equip them with the means to solve problems.
  • Provide students with a suitable foundation for further study and life-long learning.
